Comilla Victorians defeated Dhaka Dynamites in 34th match of ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. Batting first, Victorians scored 167 runs in 20 overs. Dhaka’s cricket team tried its best to score 168 runs to win the game, but ended up scoring 155 runs in 120 balls with the loss of 8 wickets.
After winning the toss, Dhaka Dynamites opted to bowl first. Opener batsmen of Comilla Victorians gave a good start to their inning. Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das played crucial role in concreting strong base for their team’s total score. The left handed Bangladeshi cricketer scored 37 runs in 23 balls while his companion hit 34 runs in 30 balls.
After these cricketers lost their wickets in initial phase of the match, Imrul Kayes and Marlon Samuels came to bat next. The two batsmen also contributed majorly in taking their team’s overall score beyond triple digit figure. Hitting 2 sixes and 5 fours, Samuels scored 39 runs in 27 balls.
Imrul Kayes hit 1 six and 2 fours to score 26 runs in 24 balls. With the addition of runs scored by the players in top order of batting lineup, Comilla Victorians crossed 140 runs in the final phase of the inning. Players in bottom order of the batting lineup could not score double digit runs and lost their wickets at the equal intervals of time.
The first inning ended with Victorians scoring 167 runs 20 overs. Dhaka Dynamites’ bowler Kevon Kooper picked up three wickets while skipper Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets. Rest all bowlers in the team went wicketless in initial inning of the match.
Dhaka’s team began the run-chase with a decent start. After scoring 6 runs in 4 balls, Evin Lewis lost his wicket 2nd over of the match. Joe Denly, who was batting at the other end of strike, performed well throughout the inning. Hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes, Denly scored 49 runs in 39 balls. Meanwhile, four batsmen at the other end of strike lost wickets at equal intervals of time.
Shadman Islam scored 9 runs in 15 balls while the next batsmen Shakib Al Hasan scored 9 runs in 8 balls. After the team’s skipper walked back to pavilion, West Indian cricketer Sunil Narine replaced him as the next batsman. However, the Caribbean cricketer could not contribute majorly in the run-chase and lost his wicket after scoring 5 runs in 3 balls.
Kieron Pollard, Mosaddek Hossain and Jahurul Islam, who batted in the bottom order of batting lineup, tried their best to bring victory for the team. The cricketer unfortunately failed to do so. Pollard scored 27 runs in 21 balls while Hossain scored 17 runs in 13 balls. Jahurul Islam hit 17 runs in 10 balls.
After the fall of wickets of these players, Kevon Kooper and Abu Hider Rony batted in the final phase of the match. The duo could not score the runs required for victory and their team ended up scoring 155 runs. West Indian cricketer Dwayne Bravo picked up three wickets while Mohammad Saifuddin took two wickets. Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik picked up one wicket in this match.
Comilla Victorians is all set to confront with Rangpur Riders in the upcoming cricket match of BPL 2017. The T20 game is about to be played on 2nd December as Sher-E-Bangla national cricket stadium, which is located in Dhaka. In 2nd match on same date, Dhaka Dynamites will take on Rajshahi Kings on their home-ground.
